Dustin Gavin is a PhD student in the Departments of Religious Studies and African American Studies at Yale University. He graduated from Howard University in 2008 with a BA in Journalism. He then obtained an MA in Media Studies from The New School in 2013, and most recently completed his second MA in Religion at Yale Divinity School and Institute of Sacred Music with a concentration in Visual Arts. Dustin is interested in civil religion and popular culture, race and gender, media theory, reality television, celebrity, and contemporary articulations and manifestations of iconography in contemporary US media.
