Kristine Juncker is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Institute of Latin American Studies at the School of Advanced Studies, University of London. She is also a Research Fellow with the Photographic History Research Centre at De Montfort University in Leicester, United Kingdom. Her first book, Afro-Cuban Religious Arts: Popular Expressions of Cultural Inheritance in Espiritismo and Santería will be available from the University Press of Florida in the Spring of 2014. She has begun working on her second book project, Internationalist Cuba: Twentieth-Century Photography and Cultural Outreach. This project examines different themes in Cuba’s photographic history that caused the Caribbean nation to be especially prominent in international, twentieth-century discourse. Among these topics, Dr. Juncker is examining the popular photographic depiction of the nation’s Spanish-Catholic colonial legacy in critical interaction with new interests in African Diasporic heritage.
