Mohamed Gorgui Seyni Guèye had a dream in 1973 in which the mosque floated in the air, he heard a voice telling him to follow it to wherever it landed. The mosque descended on Ouakam Bay in Dakar. Guèye enlisted the help of Cheikh Ngom to construct the mosque on the spot exactly as it had appeared to him, and it has become a major landmark and pilgrimage site in Dakar.
