Sonia Hazard

Sonia Hazard, is pursuing a PhD at Duke in American Religion, supplemented by studies in visual culture and critical theory. Sonia graduated summa cum laude from Macalester College in Art History and Religious Studies. She received an MTS from Harvard Divinity School. Her dissertation research focuses on the role of land and landscape in nineteenth-century religious thought and practice. A Kearns Fellowship sent Sonia to the archives of the American Antiquarian Society and the Library Company to conduct preliminary inquiries. Sonia has also presented conference papers on Moravian painting, death and dying among antebellum evangelicals, and contemporary performance art. She serves as an editorial assistant for the journal Material Religion.
